Got my Z2 yesterday for my 2008 Mustang GT with the Shaker500 stereo and everything was perfect. They got the right wiring harness and dash kit. I had purchased everything I needed to get the installation done from Radio Shack including the voltage regulator, etc. I got it installed tonight. I soldered all of the connections, etc. I was pretty happy with the outcome.

The dash is still apart and I turn it on. The Bypass works flawlessly except the navigation doesn't and the radio antenna doesn't fit. It's showing that I'm in California when I live in Florida. The arrow isn't even moving. The GPS Signal is showing a strength of "Okay" so it should be picking up something. Do I need to set something up in the menus before it'll read? I reset it in the beginning and I drove around for a couple minutes but I still can't get it to work.

What do I do?

OK just means that there is antenna plugged in. Where is the antenna mounted? Do any of the satellites in the connection status screen light up when you drive around

Yes, I've got three of the little sat. images showing up for signal. I just spoke to someone else who said you need to drive around for 10-20 minutes before it'll lock on, is this true? Also, it started out in LA. I have the GPS antenna mounted under the dash. I know it's not the best place but it's picking up signal so that's not my problem.

You are picking up 3 out of 8 satellites so "its not your problem?" Why don't you install it correctly? I bet if you actually followed the instructions, you would have 7-8 of the satellites lit up and it would work perfectly. If you are only getting three sats under the dash, your reception sucks!!! Move it to the dash with something metal underneat at a minimum, or on the roof like the the manual says and you will be fine

Wow, a little testy huh? I guess I should of said I'm picking up a minimum of three. I've used this location for every single vehicle I've installed a navigation system in so why would it be the problem now? Not to mention I've pulled it out, it doesn't change a thing.

PS: If we were supposed to abide by everything the manual says, I guess we wouldn't be doing two wire bypasses either or use the navigation while driving, etc.

Just wanted to post back, I just drove the car for a little bit and it started working.

Mine started up in LA too. That must be the default location. It took mine about 2 hours to start navigating after install.

3 satellites is all you need for a fix. You need 4 to get elevation, in addition to lat and lon (I don't think the Z2 reports elevation). Anything in addition to that is gravy. Additional satellites above 4 may help to reduce error, I'm not sure.

you only need 3 sats to get location.

the 3rd gives you altitude.

1- longatude

2- latatude

3- altitude.

Unless I missed something in the physics world, we are only 3 dimentional, That 4th satellite is used incase you lose one of the required 3.

but anyway.. ya put the antenna on a 4x4 metal service for better reception. I have used the cover from an electrical junction box (the flat covers) on some cars that didnt want it mounted outside.. of course you need to be able to hide the plate somewhere.

Good Luck

Actually, you need 3 for a 2D fix and 4 for a 3D fix because you're also solving for time. I didn't really understand that until I just looked it up (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gps). Receiving 1 or 2 sats doesn't do crap for you. You have too many unknowns to solve.
