After reading numerous posts on the brake switch bypass and rewiring the mute wire, a thought occured to me... has anyone thought about wiring up some sort of toggle switch so that it can be placed back in compliance with a flick of the switch, and off when you need to make address changes to the nav system will enroute? I am not so concerned about watching dvds when driving, but it would be nice not to have to pull over just to input an address, or dial a phone # using the BT phone interface. I think a toggle switch that passes the brake switch normally and grounding it when you need to. Any suggestions or thoughts on this?

Plenty of people have done it. But, if you aren't going to watch movies, why wouldn't you just want it bypassed all the time? No tacky switch laying around and you can change routes whenever you want

I have a switch installed in my Ram. I don't really watch videos but I listen to DVD concerts and had the switch installed in case I get pulled over by the man. It is easier to flip the toggle than to go thru the other process of shutting the video off.

I have a switch but never use it. I think if I were driving to an area where the man was pickier about that sort of thing I switch off the bypass. I don't watch videos but it would be very inconvenient to have to stop and put the park brake on just to start or cancel a route. Plus, my passenger should be allowed to do all that while the car is moving. Seems unreasonable.

I have a switch installed in my car because I have been pulled over for having video playing while I was driving through Atlanta. The officer was very determined in showing that I was in fact watching videos while driving. I also have my subs hooked up to a switch so when I am being a hot head driving through residential neighborhoods at 2 in the morning with my subs pounding I can quickly turn them off and un-hack my video playing while driving. Two very tiny switches on the underside of the steering column at the base. Haven't had a problem since.

I know that I bring those things on myself but it still nice to be one step up on people trying to bring you down. I originally did the hack for NAV purpose

I wonder who these people might be. Decent people trying to sleep at 2am so they can get to work at 8am. Or those whose job is to "serve and protect" so that decent people can sleep at 2 am instead of being disturbed by some idiot trying to impress other idiots with a noisy stereo who obviously has no respect for anyone.

Stop trying to do things wrong and problems wont follow you. When your friends or family get run over or ran off the road by some idiot trying to watch a movie and drive or, your elderly parents cant sleep at night because some idiot thinks he a rolling DJ then maybe when you grow up you'll understand why we need those people who try to keep "you" down.

I aggree, I think the Number 1 Single handed most undinyable problem with 99.9 % of people today is that they have lost all concept of common sense. (Sorry If I offend someone but to hell with it im tired of being politically correct) I love car stereo, have always loved car stereo, although lately my systems have gotten milder. I have two JL 10's and a JL 250/1 in my truck and yes I love to flex it out a little bit... when I am not bothering anyone. I try to be as considerate of others as possible when playing my music, or when I have certain passengers around. (Its not to healthy for my two year old to Jam Out) I also watch how I drive, I have always had loud exhaust on my trucks but everyone know if you dont go racing around then its not that loud nor bothers anyone. My new truck is still quiet but its soon gonna have a 5" turbo back straight pipe and anyone who is familiar with the new Cummins Diesels knows that its loud enough and deep enough to wake the dead, but that doesnt mean Im gonna be showing it off to my buddies at 3 A.M. in the nursing home parking lot. Its all about having a little common sense....

Still have 2 idiot neighbors that call the cops all the time, even though if its after 12am I turn my car off as soon as I get on my street (I live at the end). Cops either dont respond or just come talk cars for 10 minutes and laugh at how stupid people are.

Uh, you must be mistaking me for the guy who started this thread....nowhere did I say I try to disturb people at 2am, much less "get off" doing so.

Aside from that, I'd be willing to bet your stereo doesn't sound any better or clearer than mine....I've put close to 4k into my system, and you don't get much better than Boston Acoustics.

I would have to disagree with that. There are much BETTER brands such as FOCAL and EUROSPORT.
