Speed Pulse always 0 (BMW 325ci)

I recently installed my Avic-Z1 in my 2002 325ci along with ducatiboy's bypass. Everything works fine except my speed pulse always reads 0 which prevents me from using some of the vehicle dynamics and it may also affect the accuracy of my GPS / Navigation!

I have the speed wire hooked up the white/black wire in my car, which should be the speed wire for my car.

Does anyone know why this would happen? I'm almost positive I have the right wire, but other than that I can't think of a reason why this would happen. Any help would be appreciated!

First thing, welcome to the forum. I feel your pain brother. It took me 3 attempts to find the correct wire. I found the the Z1 requires a pulse that is constant, what I mean to say is the pulses need to increase as the speed increases (makes sense). In my car, the true VSS produces a pulse at certain speeds but does not maintain a pulse. Basically what that means is as I am travelling, when I hit a certain speed a pulse is produced then, it disappears. The Z1 would detect the pulse but that would be it. If you are reading Zero on the speed pulse that means the car is stationary. So in your case I would say your wire connection is wrong...you may want to speak to your local car stereo installer to see if they have some suggestions. I bet there is nothing wrong with your Z1...verify your connections and if you have the opportunity, get a voltmeter and confirm the pulses coming from your speed sensor.

If the speed pulse always reads 0 then it's not the right wire or it's not compatible with the z1. Either way, you would need to find a different wire to hook it too. Unfortunately, I don't know where that wire is. I would ask brachoza:

Thanks for the reply.

I hooked it into my glove box where theres like 6 speed wires (it's a junction thing) so maybe one of the others is better.

If anyone on the forum that's hooked up a Z1 in their BMW sees this, which speed wire did you use?

I just installed at Z1 in my 2001 BMW Z3. If you used a wiring harness, you will notice that the pin hole for the VSS is absent.

Your stock bmw radio plug has the VSS in it. You either need to add an extra pin to your harness or splice into that wire directly.
