Hey all, I ordered my Avic-D3 through Crutchfield on the last day of the $200 rebate. They included the bluetooth and ipod cable, as well as the DDin bracket for mounting, and all necessary wire adapters. Other then having to solder up the main harness, what other splicing will be required? I plan on doing the bypass as well and the instructions I found here were quite confusing... Thanks for any input. I tried searching for a newbie install guide but couldn't find anything really.
Newb installing a D3 into a 2007 F150
I have a 2007 F150 Lariat and there should no "splicing" to do. I'm assuming you are going to do the bypass mod. Fortunately for us, our vss wire is located in the wiring harness for the radio. (gray wire with black stripe) just put a t-tap on there and plug it in. You can run all the ground wires together as well as the power for the BT module. There is a TON of room in the dash of these trucks. I mounted my BT module directly under the dash tray. (two screws and the tray comes right out, making it very easy to see everything in the dash. You can just mount the BT module on the crossbar under the tray. As far as the GPS antenna, I tried it under the tray and didnt get very good results. (only picked up 2 sats at best) I put mine under the third brake light and ran the wire along the edge of the headliner and had much better results. (never less than 6, most of the time I get signal from all sats). Also the antenna is not on the outside of the vehicle so you don't have to worry about leaks. Any questions, feel fre to PM me.
awesome man, thanks
Also, do I need to tap into the reverse line too? What gauge t-taps do I need?
lol I just received the unit... boy am I in deep over my head
its not that hard man and with the bypass i dont think u would tap into the reverse wire i could be wrong though

It's not as difficult as you might think. just get some red and some blue t-taps. The red i used for the vss wire and the steering wheel control interface because those wires are small and I had a connection issue with using the blue taps on those wires.
Its not bad at all.Get you a nice big table.Get all your wiring diagrams(harness,truck/car,Pioneer unit).I don't like to solely go by wire colors.Get your tools and accessories(solder gun, solder, heat shrink wrap, heat gun/lighter,cable ties).I don't know why but I always start with the power wires first.Take your time and make sure there are no distractions. After you're finish test it with a power converter before you install it(Its easier to fix out the car).Get a speaker and attach it to each speaker wire one at a time to ensure its working correctly. You can check everything but the nav.If all checks out now you're ready for the install. Good luck !!
