Hi,

I just bought a D3, and I tried searching, but what is the 15gb HD used for? Can I load songs onto it?

Also, I am installing this into a Cadillac Escalade, if I do the bypass according to the instructions on the site, will my car NOT mute when ONStar is enabled?

Thanks in advanced for any help!

-from what heard here, it cant be used for anything other to memorize routes, etc.....maybe some tech will learn how to unlock it though.

-it will shut down the unit bc you need the mute wire on the interface hooked to the mute wire on the d3 harness....

and you wont be able to do that becasue you grounded it for bypass.

just get another wire and connect it to interface...

Would the AVIC D3 shut down, or Onstar shut down?

So, would I put a "new" wire into the slot above the mute wire, and hook up the mute wire per normal and the "new" wire above it to ground?

THE D3 SHUTS DOWN WHEN YOUR ON ONSTAR THEN COMES BACK ON WHEN YOUR ONSTAR TRANSMISSION IS OVER.

JUST AS IF YOU TURNED YOUR CAR ON AND OFF.

YOUR CORRECT. PLUG IN A WIRE INTO THE SLOT THE ORIGINAL MUTE WAS....THEN CONNECT THAT WIRE TO THE INTERFACE WIRE AS THE INTERFACE INSTRUCTIONS SAY.

THEN YOULL BE GOOD.

WHEN YOU PRESS ONSTAR, THE STEREO AUDIO WILL MUTE AND THE ONSTAR WILL BE AUDIBLE...YOUR SCREEN WILL STAY ON.

There is NO hard drive. The 15GB they are referencing is the two dual layer nav DVD's that come with the system. They just use clever wording to trick people into thinking it has 15GB of internal memory.. which it doesn't.

Thanks for the info.

But

Instead of moving the mute wire, I can just put a new one into the slot above, and ground that out, correct?

And the HD thing, those tricky bastards. lol.

Yes, just use the remote wire (blue/white) and leave the mute alone and use it for your OnStar. Then use the blue (antenna control) wire in the main harness like it is the blue/white. Then under the settings menu, turn the "antenna control" from antenna to "power" and you'll be set.

Thanks,

So just move the blue/white to the slot above the mute button, and use the blue one as if it was blue/white.

What exactly does the system remove control (Blue/white) do.

Also what does changing those settings exactly do.

I just want to make sure everything is hooked up as close to OEM as possible.

should i just leave the blue wire on the black plug or move it to white harness where the blue/white was?

What is a good wire to use beside the antenna one, that is never usually used?

Or where can I buy a wire with the same clip size to insert into the harness?

They have two different pin sizes. You can't move them between the two harnesses. Just use the antenna wire as the turn on signal, and set it to constant power instead of tuner only in the settings menu.

If I use the antenna control to power my remote control, will I have problems actually listening to the radio?

I do not have a power antenna, it is just a stationary antenna.

The antenna control wire is only for power antennas (antennae?) so you wouldn't need it with a stationary antenna.

Thanks, you just eased my mind.

Now will it fit from the black harness to the white harness?

If it does I was going to move it into the blank location on the white harness.

If not, I will just use it to power my system remote control wire.

Don't forget that a lot more of the newer cars today have powered antenna amplifiers in them than you'd think. Even if you have a stationary antenna, you might get crappy radio reception if it's not powered up. Check your car's wiring harness and see if it's got an antenna power wire on it. If so, you'll have to split the D3's antenna wire so it goes to the car's antenna wire as well as whatever else you're using it to turn on.

Or, if you need to, you can splice into the ACC (switched) power wire going to the radio. Since it only powers up when the car is on, it basically does the same thing as the remote turn on wire and the power antenna wire.

I haven't seen any antenna amplifiers on vehicles with standard fixed mast antennas. I thought they were only used for windshield antennas or those little shark fin roof mounted antennas. Am I wrong?

I don't know... I just know that there are a fairly good amount of topics on this site about people's radio reception being crap because they didn't hook up the power antenna wire. Nobody ever bothered to ask if they had an in glass, sharkfin, mast, whatever antenna... just told them to hook up the wire and it fixes the problem.

I guess you could just hook it up without it and see if the reception's fine. If it's not, it's a pretty easy fix. Just hook up the wire.

Sounds good, but does anyone know where I can get a connector that will fit into the white plug?

If I tap into one of the other wires or antenna wire, I would like to stick the wire into the plug without it coming back out when I hit a bump or something.

Actually now that I think about it. I can connect the antenna wire normally and just tap the vehicle harness remote wire into the antenna too.
