So my Z2 was locking up in the start-up screen this morning. It wouldn't boot to the system controls. After doing some reading on here, I tried to do the firmware update.

I load the CD, and it prompts me that it is beginning the update. It starts to do it's thing and about 3/4 of the way through the update, it says system update failed. restarting. It now cycles through the 3 screens

1) pioneer nav is starting up

2) system update started

3) system update failed. restarting.

The car was running the entire time. I have no idea what went wrong.

I tried the hard reset (small button nest to the tilt button) with no success. Is there any other way to get the unit back to its default settings? or am I going to have to pull it out and send it in?

Any advice would be appreciated.

You just describd my exact problem. Wen through the same process. Have the same loop of screens now. Tried the reset. Tried different disks. Nothing is working.

Can anyone help??

Though I've never personally experienced this, I've heard that it happens when there's a problem with the disc. Try re-burning it on a different brand CD or just let it loop like that MANY times and it might eventually make it through.

Thanks.

I tried a different disc and it doesn't seem to change anything. Pioneer basically told me I'm screwed and to send it back in.

They said the problem must go beyond, just the locking up issue I was trying to remedy by running the firmware update.

Uggh.

Has anyone else seen this happen?

So the z2 has been cycling for about 1-2 hours during the past 24 hours, on my way home tonight, it rebooted correctly. Obviously the update ddn't take, but at least its not stuck in loop pergatory. I'll just call pioneer and get a copy of the cd directly from them. Thanks for the input and I hope the other poster figures out his problems as well.

Good to know yours finally stopped looping. Mine is still doing it.

Did you leave the same disc in the drive the whole time? I have taken mine out.

leave the disc in. Let it keep looping and, hopefully, one time it'll get the files off properly and get a successful update.

I changed disks, and the update loaded successfully! It now works like new!

Just did the update to mine and now it's looping the failure screen as well. Going to try another disk...

Edit: Just went back out there with a new disk, turned the car on with the original disk still in it. It finished the update fine before I even got the old disk out... Go figure.
