So I really like this forum. I learned A LOT about installing. This is my first stereo installation. I have everything wired up (D3, XM, Bluetooth) and working. I am wondering if there is an "easy" way of finding he VSS and reverse wires? I am installing on a 2008 Mazda 5.

You get the reverse signal from the power wire for the reverse bulbe in one of your tail lights.

I don't know where the VSS wire actually is, but this might help (post #7):

Not sure how many of you know about THIS but if you scroll towards the bottom of the page, you can select your vehicle make, model and year and it will give you some info used for installing cruise control's....VSS being one of the things you need. There is also a map that shows were it's at in the car.

You're a life saver! I've been eying this unit for a while but I haven't pulled the trigger on my 2002 Mazda Protege because I couldn't find anything on its VSS (short of just ganking it from the tranny and figuring out how to route it into the cabin). I'm totally getting one now, Pioneer should pay you a kickback. 8)

I doubt Pioneer would pay any kickbacks, but I will be glad to give you my paypal account addy  J/K glad it helped you out. My wife has an 02 Protege 5, we really like the car, but she's had it since new and is thinking of getting into one of the many "crossovers" available
