My Samsung SCH-i760 workaround (very technical)

In all honesty I was pretty bummed when I heard that I would not be able to use my Samsung SCH-i760 because Verizon is a piece of garbage and they strip all the guts out of the phones bluetooth capabilities.

I went into my local Verizon shop and was able to get the Motorola Q to work (hate the phone, no touch screen and just feels cheap) and a couple of the Blackberry's to work (I have a Slingbox and it won't work on a Blackberry so forget it). I settled on the Samsung SCH U410. What? Yup; they gave me the rebate on the spot, so I paid nothing, I added another line to my account (so an extra $9.99 plus about a billion dollars in taxes and line use fees, etc.), and now I leave that one in the car all week long and I carry it on the weekends.

If ever I need to stay in touch I forward the number from my other phone to it, and vice-versa. I looked on the forums for about a week looking for that one post that had the answer I was looking for but unfortunately I never found and this was the next best thing. I apologize if I got anybody's hopes up, didn't mean to make anyone mad.

You can use the i760 with the BT unit. I know because I have both.

You just need to make a registry change. Do a google search for i760 Pioneer bluetooth. I think the site is pdahome or something like that. Some guy made a utility that does it.

I ran it and boom. It worked. I even uploaded my address book.

Part of the problem is that the i760 is recognized as both a handsfree set and headset. So you have to make sure headset is unchecked. The registry changes fixes everything else.

I was about to return mine until I found this fix.

I know I posted about this a week ago.

Looks like I need to put in a call to Verizon to cancel the second line (although I might just keep it due to the number of clients that have my current cell phone, drives me nuts on the weekends). It worked! Thank you so much. I am able to transfer numbers one at a time and it connects automatically. I will mess with voice dialing tomorrow, it's late. Thank you again, I really appreciate it!

You're welcome, and I'm glad it worked for you. I was pretty frustrated too, because I love the i760 and I didn't want to return it.

The only bug I found with it so far is when I paired my phone with another handsfree device (Garmin Nuvi), the phone defaulted to the Nuvi from that point. I just had to click on the Pioneer and check "handsfree" again.

I didn't try voice dialing. I think there's a thread here that says it either doesn't work or doesn't work well. Dunno. I'll try it sometime to confirm.
