Hello-

I've been to the wiring section, and I used the link to determine where the VSS wire should be connected to for my 2004 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab truck. I also found a thread on another message board that had some images on the wire.

According to the wiring section, I am supposed to be looking for a green wire with an orange stripe. I've double checked, and I can't seem to find that specific wire. Here is what I'm looking at.

In the wiring section, there should be a 28 pin connector with a green wire with an orange stripe on it. Here is a picture from a 2001 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 Double Cab. The green/orange wire looks like it is in the bottom row, third from the left.

Here is a picture of what I think is the same connector, but the wiring looks different. This is from a 2004 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 Double Cab. The wire that is in the same location is green, but has a yellow strip on it.

Tomorrow I plan on trying to put a meter on the wire, and see if the reading changes when I drive.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I found the VSS for a 2005 Tocama. I know yours is 2004 but it may be the same wiring pattern. This is what I found.

ECM behind the glove box, second plug from the bottom, pin 8 or a VIOLET/WHITE wire at teh fuse box in a 13 pin plug in pin 5

Julius-

Thanks for the reply. The connectors that I have on the 2004 are horizontal. There are five of them (I think, I'll have to take a better picture and post it)

I'll check to see if I have a 13 pin plug and check the color as well.

Thanks.

Well now we know the wire color is different from 04 to 05.

Wire found:

The thread that I linked to is correct. I was able to find the Green/Orange wire, splice into it, and it seems to work. I finally finished my install, and the VSS is doing it's job. I can get the dynamic gauges to read my speed...pretty slick. Here are some photos of the elusive wire.

Spliced in, and ready to go.
