Is there any way to test to make sure the screen works? Like jumping connections on the back of the unit?

Don't think so, as the AM/FM tuner is built in the brain, as is most of the Nav circuitry. Only thing that's in the head is the screen, DVD ROM player and the amplifier.

No way to test the headunit without a brain connected.

Yah, thats what I thought. All I got was the flashing red light when i took the face plate off.
