I just finished upgrading my used Z1 and am now ready to install it. I have a couple of questions that I hope someone from here can answer for me.

#1. Does someone sell a GPS/XM/Sirius antenna mouse that allows connections to all the hide away units? Seems silly that I have to run a gps antenna, and then a XM-Nav antenna as well, and if I were to choose sirius (Seriously doubt that since I have the p10xmt). Just wondering.

#2. I bought it used, and the GPS antenna came without the metal plate that is suggested to be used if not magnetically connected to the outside of the vehicle. It states DO NOT cut or trim it, so I assume that its a engineered plate with some specific benfit that warrants me taking the time to try to buy one from ebay or pioneer or some other member? Anyone got specs on what it is, where I can buy one, etc, etc, I WILL be mounting all the antenna's on top of the non metal dash of my Camry Wagon, up near where the defrost vents are, pushed up into the space against the window.

#3. With respect to the dual gps/xm antenna and if it doesnt exist, I have to install what I have and I used to have a car pc, with a home computer usb XM radio antenna, and I had that mounted inside the car, on the rear quarter panel (Its a wagon) inside plastic near where the back seat seatbelts pass through the plastic that is shapped to the inside of the wheel well, pushed up against the wagons side rear glass windows. This unit with the p10xmt seems to be MUCH better build and much more solid. Do I really need to mount it outside, how about on the dash pushed back up against the front windshield, its not tinted, and no wiring is inside the glass on the 93 camry wagon v6 windshield.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, thats the way it is... separate antennas for all

Lots of people have had good reports actually connecting the antenna's INSIDE the dash (on a metallic cross member)

If you've had good expeience in a previous installation, mounting the "new" antenna in the same place *shoud* give the same results

I believe that's just a ground-plane for the magnet inside the antenna to attach to... you might be able to (don't quote me on this BUT...) use velcro to secure the antenna

Anyone else?

Thanks

Over the last two years since the Z1 came out, I've installed it in two cas. The first car, I put the antenna on the roof, connected VSS .. the whole nine. Worked great.

When I moved it to the second car I decided to put the receiver on the dash (no plate) and did NOT connect VSS. The thing was lost all the time and never knew which way was north. Before taking the time to look for the VSS I thought, "well, maybe I'll try the 'required' metal plate and see if it helps." Low and behold, that was enough. I get 100% signal, flawless navigation, and it never misses a turn.

Summary: in my experience, the antenna must be mounted on metal (included plate is ok), and the VSS is not necessary for perfect navigation.

Use the metal pad if you can't stick it to something else metal. Its included for a reason

Thats why I am asking, it didn't come with one. Trying to locate a replacement or place to buy one.

I mounted my antenna inside the dash on a metal tray without using the magnetic pad, and I get excellent connection and it's never lost. I'd say the included pad is for if you end up mounting to something other than metal.

I mounted my antenna on the rear parcel shelf ...if thats what its called under the rear window so you can hardly see it, used velcro to keep it still and I get great signal, never ever had a problem in the two years I owned it, I don't think these antennas really need to have a metal base or be outside but it does help with signal.
