I did the e-bay thing and picked up a refurbed Z1 for $750. I was originally looking at the D series, but found that I could get the Z for the same price...the seller I bought from shipped quick, has 100% positive feedback and was extra helpful even after the sale.
Of course once you've gotten the harware, you can get the hard drive update for the Z3 on e-bay as well.
Just bought mine on EBay refurbished for $750 plus $20 shipping.
