Why is the AVIC-D2 more expensive than the AVIC-D3? I know the D3 is newer and plays DVD movies, but why is the D2 more expensive?

Because its old and technology gets cheaper over time. Just like you can get a better laptop for $500 now, than you could spending $1000 two years ago
