So I got my iPod 5.5 gen to work with my D3, but what happens is I've got some music videos on my music playlist, but it doesn't play the video for them unless I go through the video menu. Is there any way around this?

Nope. You have to use the ipod controls to initiate video playback. Once it's started, you can use the controls on the D3 to go forward and back through the videos.
