Many here have been experiencing the dreaded echo problem. For those that are new, it's when the party on the other end of the phone conversation talks, they get their conversation back into their ear...it sounds like an echo and is very irritating. I was fairly satisfied with my configuration, but at times did get an echo when I called my wife in the vehicle. So this weekend, I played around with it for a bit. I have the mic at the top of the left A pillar and the voice coming from the right speaker only. With the volume around 3 bars or less, no echo. But my wife had a difficult time hearing the conversation. What I did this weekend was take some foam rubber and cover the mic. It worked pretty good!! I now have the volume up to 4 and 1/2 bars and no echo! The person talking in the car is SLIGHTLY muted...very slight.

I used a piece of foam insulation you can buy at any hardware store or home center. And it's not a very thick piece either. It is fairly dense however. I'm thinking about playing around with different thicknesses and densities to see if I can improve on it further. But at least now my wife can hear her caller clearly and the caller doesn't get the echo back in his ear!!

can you describe the type of "foam rubber" you used and how you applied it.... to the whole thing, sides only...etc.... a picture is worth a 1K words!

Thanks.

I don't have a pic. But what I did was use that foam rubber that comes in rolls that you buy in a home supply store...and is usually sold in automotive stores too. Right now, I'm using a piece that's about a 1/2 inch wide and 1/4 inch thick. I cut off about 2 inches and wrapped it across the front of the mic and down each side a ways. It has adhesive on the one side (you peel off the paper) but it won't stick to the mic. For now, I just ran a small zip tie around the mic and foam to hold it. I'm going to play with other thicknesses and densities to see what works best. So far, I am pleased with how it's improved the echo problem.
