Civic Hybrid w/o Factory Nav System?

This is mainly aimed at the installers on this forum.

I'm thinking about getting a Honda Civic Hybrid when I return next year from deployment. I don't want to fork over the extra cash for a Nav system, since I can just get a Z1 upgraded to Z3 and put it in myself. My question is this:

Would I be able to fit an AVIC-Zx in the dash of a Civic Hybrid that didn't come with a Nav system factory-installed? The dash molding doesn't look like it would allow it. I checked with Crutchfield and they say that double din units will fit the vehicle, but I just don't see how that could be done.

Any advice/thoughts/musings anyone has on this would be greatly appreciated.

Installing a Z series unit in a Civic not that difficult if you have some mechanical and electrical abilities. I installed a Z2 in my 2007 Civic. I bought the Double Din dash kit from a Honda dealer on-line. Crutchfield has the adapter kits. For more information go to http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/.

I just bought an 08' Civic Hybrid from Honda and since my car didn't have the factory navigation unit I opted for the Z3 from their accessories catalog. The installers put it in no problem with a backup camera for me as well.

So you shouldn't really have any problems with this.

Thanks for your input, this is the kind of answer I was looking for. Someone who actually HAS one installed or has installed it. Cheers! :)
