My AVIC-N3 has just started to turn off and back on periodically. I know this sounds like a loose power connection and I plan on checking the connections this weekend; however, when I turned off my engine and restarted the car, the unit stayed on consistently.

However, on the way to work, for the first 1/2 it played fine, then it started to turn off again. So I was wondering before I check the wiring (which the last time I checked seemed to be fine) has anyone else run into this problem? And does it sound like it could be the unit itself?

Verify that you have good connections and all the fuses are making good contact and are clean, it happened to me a few weeks ago.
