Can anyone tell me how to find the wire I need to tap into to make the Z2 unit dim at night when the headlights come on?

Should this be part of the wire harness set-up?

My installer did not do this, and it is a pain to get into his shop to fix this. If I can do it myself I would lke to.

Thanks

what year is the f250? it should have an illumination wire. check your harness for an orange wire, or try to find an OEM wiring diagram to tell you. if there is none, run a wire thru your firewall and tap into the headlights + wire

Rather than run through the firewall, you can pull your headlamp switch out and then using an Ohm meter, see which wire has power when the running lights turn on and tap off of that one. I have an 07 Mustang and the wire I tapped into was an orangish/tanish wire with a white stripe. Not saying the harnesses are the same, but Ford could use a similar color pattern between vehicles.

I have an '04 F-150 and my dimmer wire color was the same, I'm almost positive.

That wire was in the harness already because the stock radio dimmed as well.

Sorry, just because the stock radio dimmed, doesn't mean it was in the harness. You factory head unit is most likely a canbus unit. Dimmer, speed volume control and retained accessory power is controlled by a digital signal. 2 wires on the 16 pin factory harness.

Well that's good to know...thanks...but I'm not the one with the problem

:D

Was just an FYI. Some late model fords have the dimmer wire, some don't. Almost everything 2004+ has the canbus interface, though.

I guess consistency would be too much to ask of Ford.

Rally, how hard is it to put a dimmer wire in the radio harness? :?

Wouldn't it be easier to tap into the headlight switch itself?

No, it's easier just to hook up the dimmer in the harness you used for the truck All the F-250's have one in the harness, and is not can bus.

You have to pull the deck anyway to get at the wire on the radio itself, white/orange.
