I just got done installing my D3 on my 2003 Chevy Trailblazer. I got the wires all set, lined up and everything, and put everything back in place. Everything plays as soon as its hooked up without moving - DVD, CD, Bluetooth...everything. When I go for a drive to test it all out, the power goes out with no warning after about 30 seconds of driving. The stereo powers back on and shuts back off intermittenly every 15-30 seconds. I checked all of the wires, made sure nothing was touching, checked the ground and EVERYTHING!!! What am I missing here???
D3 Power Outage!!!
Sounds like a ground issue.
Yeah, I agree, but how do you think the ground needs to be set to avoid having this problem? From the way everything is set, I have the ground clipped up all over the place.
Well you should be getting ground from the existing radio harness.
Though i'm curious, where did you get your ACC power from? The 2003 Trailblazer might be one of those vehicles with Databus instead of a traditional ACC wire in the harness.
I would do a continuity test on the ground and while you doing the test move the wire around to see if the connection breaks. What do you mean when you say you have grounds clipped up all over the place? You could also do a volts test by disconnecting the red wire from the unit and hook the supplied side to your meter and ground your black wire off your meter to any metal.Go for a drive and see if the volts stay constant or rise and fall.If it rises and falls get another switched power supply.
Take EVERYTHING in there that requires grounding (unit, parking brake wire, mute wire, BT unit, XM tuner, etc.) and run all the grounds to a single ground point (a screw or bolt on the body of the car) and ground them there, rather than having a single grounding wire and grounding everything off of it. There's a chance that there are too many things trying to use the wire as a ground point and it's overloading/bottlenecking the ground wire and causing problems.
