so... would this fit in the s2000?
Avic D3 in s2000
Not without hundreds of dollars worth of custom dash work. The only place for a radio of any kind is behind that panel in front of the shifter, and even then, it is only tall enough for a single DIN sized unit. A nav unit with a fold out screen wouldn't work there either because it would most likely hit the shifter on the way out, and it would definitely hit the dashboard since the opening is recessed underneath the dash. The only thing you could possibly do is make up a custom opening up above in the dashboard, and that's only if there is actually any empty space behind there.

Check that thread. It's a waste though really. You want to remove more weight, not add it. ![]()
I just put a D2 in mine. If you take out the radio door and look inside, you will see what modification you need to make. It will work, but is a PITA and requires a lot of custom stuff. You will either have to DIY like I did or have some one do it which will probably be around $500-1000 of labor.
First, the cage that surrounds the 1din radio area and supports the vent needs to be un bolted and removed. There is one wire grounded to the cage, re-ground it somewhere else.
Then, you need to remove the SRS module. you will need a T30 bit for this.
Once you have the SRS module out, you will need to relocate it either by painstakingly extending EVERY wire long enough to get it moved, or do what I did and cut away the false floor there with a pneumatic nibbler which will allow you to drop the SRS unit about 3".
You will need to cut away the plastic on the bottom edge that the door snaps into.
The center vent needs to be removed completely.
Finally, custom fab a bezel that is strong enough to support the unit and upholster it to match the interior.
I have a D2 in my dash now and it is running fine. I am making the bezel and should be done in a few days. I will post pics when finished.
forget about trying to utilize the stock mounting bolts in any way shape or form unless you want to remove the entire HVAC system and lose all ventilation in the car.
The unit WILL NOT sit as far back as the 1 din radio can because of the HVAC system.
Having said all this, I have done it so it is possible. Practical, no F'in way.
I think a better solution is to have the dash cut and a bezel made to mount it there.
Here are a few of the area opened up after the mods (in these pics the vent and cage still hasn't been removed) the cage is only held on by two 10mm nuts facing down into the floor.:
