Is moving around on the map as bad as the D1/D2 where you have to keep tapping near the edge of the screen to move around, or is it touch & drag like the F-series?

Thanks for the reply, is it choppy or smooth?

I've read it's quite choppy on the F-series.

No not at all its pretty smooth if you ask me. All z series are good. Testesd with Z1 and Z3, so you can pretty much say that z2 would be the same result.

Thanks, that definitely makes the decision between Z and F-series harder for me!

The onscreen keyboard on the Z is also a QWERTY layout, right?

That is correct

You can touch and hold and the screen will continue to scroll. You can even move your finger around to follow winding roads.

Not only is the keyboard QWERTY, you can change the layout to other types too.

Either there's a setting I missed, or you guys misunderstood what I was asking... my Z2 is exactly like my D2 when it comes to moving around the map which is where you have to touch to the left, right, above, or below the center point to move the map. It's NOT touch & drag.

What I meant by touch & drag is like how the iPhone works on its Google Maps or Safari browser - you touch any spot on the screen, then move your finger around and it follows your finger exactly. TomTom for Windows Mobile works that way too so I know it can be done on a standard resistive touchscreen.

Oh well, I still really like my Z2 despite things like that... I do wish it were possible to touch and drag the scroll bars as well rather than having to touch arrow up & down all the time. My D2 was that way too so nothing new.

Either you are doing somthing wrong, because the avic z2 is a touch and drag same with my z3. I know what you mean, when looking on the map you want to see if there is a road called such and such, so you would then go ahead and touch the screen to look ahead on the map. Well all you need to is touch and drag.

On what map layout is your avic set as to. Twin view etc?

If Twin map is selected like mine, when wanting to look ahead make sure you tap the right side of the screen where the 2D look is and then it will open up the map as a 2d view rather then a 3d view and just touch and drag.

Let us know.

I believe that he is talking about 'touch and drag" like the garmin units. You touch the screen and then slide your finger the the map will follow.

The Avic Z series is "touch and scroll". If you touch the screen anywhere other than the center of the screen, the map will continue to scroll across the screen until your finger in lifted. If you move your finger then the scroll direction will change.

Garrettoomey knows what I'm talking about.

I have never used Garmin, but TomTom for Windows Mobile and pretty much everything on the iPhone works the way I prefer. If Garmin does it too, I guess that leaves Pioneer as the lone oddball.

I won't complain too much though, I only paid $560 shipped for a cosmetically perfect Z2 and upgraded it to a Z3 for $4.97 so I'm quite happy with what I got for how much I gave.
