Hi,

What is the biggest size size and version SD card the F900 can use?

If you want to say "Use the search function" please just post the link since you obviously know where it is and I could not find it.

Thanks everybody.

The specs in the manual say it will support an 8GB SD or SDHC card. But I would bet that a 16GB or 32GB card will work in it, it's just that at the time they were developing the F-series the biggest SD card capacity on the market was 8GB. Even now it's hard findin one larger than that without looking very hard.

From the manual (which you can download from the Pioneer website):

SD

Compatible physical format

..................................................... Version 2.00

Max capacity memory ........... 8 GB

File system .................................. FAT16, FAT32

Decoding format ......................MP3/WMA/AAC/WAVE/

MPEG4

I just held off on buying an 8gb SDHC because I'm hoping somebody with a 16gb or even 32gb would be able to give this a shot... I already have too many <4gb SD/SDHC cards because I keep upgrading my cards and have nothing to do with the old ones.

I plugged in my 8gb card and it recognized it. I don't know anyone who has a 16gb card to try out on my system though :(

I want to buy a 16Gb card too, but I'm holding off until someone can test one!! My 4Gb SDHC card worked fine.

The manual says it supports up to 2Gb on the USB port, but I've got an 8 Gb Corsair flash drive to work. The only problem is it loses the USB drive everytime you power off and on, and I have to unplug and plug it back in, then it works fine. However, this means it can't resume music when you switch on - you have to navigate back to whatever you were playing, which is annoying. A similar 2Gb Corsair stick worked perfectly, and resumed from power off without any unplugging.

So...if anyone does test a 16Gb SDHC card, can they see if resumes playback when you switch the unit off and on?! :)

The maximum size available to SDHC is 32GB!!!

Thank you for contacting Pioneer Electronics, Inc.

Yes, with FAT32 it will support up to 32GB on the SD slot for AVIC-F90BT.

Inquiry:I just purchased the AVIC-F90BT. I know the manual says 8gb is the maximum for SDHC cards, but I'm assuming it's just because 8gb was the maximum size at the time the manual was written. Will FAT32 SDHC cards work if their capacaties are 16gb or even 32gb?

Great. Who wants to go first and try a 32GB card? Are they even available yet?

Posted Jun 20, 2008 · 20:49 UTC#12

Stupid question: Can you sort your music by artist, Album, and genre with an SD card like you can with the Ipod?

Posted Jun 20, 2008 · 20:56 UTC#13

No. You have to manually create folders for that kind of thing (Like: Main folder > Genre Folder > Artist Folder > Files) and sort them yourself. There is also a search function where you can type in a word and it will find files and folders that match.

If you guys want SD cards real cheap I found them in Hong Kong off e-bay.

Here's the link I picked up two I hope they combine shipping but even if they don't 40$ for a 16gb at my door isn't too shabby.

all by the same seller dgseller 10-15 days lead I think so it'll take a while but it's worth it. I'll be getting mine in that time I'll let you know if they are any good... I don't see a problem though, thay're all made in the same place anyway.

I have a 16 gb Patriot as well... works very nicely.

It does seem slower to load after I updated to firmware 2.0

The other thing is that I can no longer pull the bar down on the side to search for music in ver 2.0 Without this, searching for songs is too slow.

I have 1500+ songs in one directory

I am tempted to go back to version 1.17

My problem with Ipod is that you have to convert all the songs for it, changing the format, quality and even the file name.

I prefer mp3s.

I use a Zen and love it. All my music is already on SD card which my zen can play as well.

I use an iPod and I don't convert or change anything and all my music is MP3's. I don't use iTunes though, there's a program called MGTEK Dopisp. It allows syncing an iPod with Windows Media Player's built-in sync. I don't care for iTunes and it's even totally screwed up Vista once where the only way I could get my machine to boot was to go into Safe Mode and do a System Restore.

Not convert them to play on an avic, When you put songs onto an Ipod, you need to use the apple utility. The utility converts them to ipod format and places them on your ipod. Whereas I use explorer and just copy. No util needed.

Ipods are fine, just not for me. As I said, I like my zen and now I don't need to hook it up in my car to play my music. I can use the same sd card in both units. SD cards have become the standard for me... use them in camera, camcorder, stereo, dvd, etc. Now it would be nice to have standard playlist files on sd like winamp makes.

Yeah, that Dopisp program I mentioned eliminates any need to use Apple iTunes or anything relating to Apple whatsoever. Granted, you can't just drag & drop MP3 folders into the iPod via Explorer, but you can use Windows Media player to sync an iPod to your WMP library the exact same way you'd use it to sync to a Zune for example. Dopisp makes the iPod less proprietary by eliminating the Apple software. It's a nice program.

I do agree it would be nice to be able to open it as a disk device in Explorer and just drag & drop folders. There used to be a program that would allow an iPod to do that in XP called XPlay2. I see they now have an XPlay3 that supports Vista, but I've never tried it. Just reading the description, it might be more feature-rich than Dopisp, I may have to try their trial.

I am using a 16gb SD card with no problems as well. I do use Itunes but just copied the files from my HDD to the SD card with no issues.

Gotta read the fine print on some of Sandisk's cards... they claim higher numbers but when you look at the class rating which is based on the tested sustained transfer it's usually lower... snag a class 6 16gb on Amazon for about 30-40 these days :)
