Hi Folks

I know the F700bt does not support video from dvd's but can I still play videos that are stored on my ipod video?

Thanks.

Just the amount of available space.

Would the ipod video cable (rca) be required or would the video signal be transported via the CD-IU230V?

thanks.

The CD-IU230V is the ipod video cable. It's all you need. It transports data to the unit through the USB port and audio and video to it through it's RCA connectors.

Video from an USB drive? Sure?

They told me that USB does not deliver Video, so USB drives only play music...

notsure about the whole usb thing but CD and DVD are two completely seperate things. They use different compression, different lasers(in some cases), and different disks.

Skoos:

Yes, it will play videos. I've done it myself as a test. Take a USB thumb drive and put some mpeg videos on it. It will play them the same way the SD card will.

If you read the whole topic you linked to there you'd know that.

Phlame217:

Yes, they use different lasers and compression methods. But in simplest terms, a video file on a CD is just the same as a video file on a DVD, except you can't fit as much on to it.

WOW!!! Amazing!

I was afraid of buying ipods, because I don't really like the iTunes. But now, I don't even need it. Yeah. :D

How about quality and response-times? I thought that playing Video files from the USB HDD might have better quality than from the Ipod (because Ipod is composite)

Could someone please upload two images for me about the same video (first showing video from the Ipod and second from the USB drive)?

Thanks!

mp4 is actually a decent quality on an iPod but since the player can read Divx from a cd and therefore most likely a usb drive, the usb drive will be much better. As for regular mpeg, there wouldnt be too much of a difference.

It WILL NOT play dixv, xvid, avi files off the usb or sd ports. Only from the CD or DVD drive. The usb and sd slots only play mpeg4 or wmv videos. It's in the owner's manual at the end in the specifications section.

Now that I look closer, it says the CD drive in the 700 units won't play video at all, just audio. So putting divx movies on a CD won't work... or at least that's what the manual says.

So for the 700's, the ONLY video source is ipod, usb, and sd card. And ALL 3 basically use the same file type, which is MP4.

You can still try it and see if it works. The manual says the SD card will only go up to 8GB, but it will go higher than that, so there's a chance it's the same way with the USB. Just plug it in and see what happens. It's not like you've got anything to lose by trying.

The manual says the biggest SD card that will work is 8GB. But (although it hasn't been confirmed that I can remember) the 16GB and 32GB cards are also compatible if you can afford them. It's just at the time that the manual/unit was being produced, the largest consumer available SD cards were 8GB so that's what they set the cap at.

My 4GB SDHC card works fine. The unit will play XVID from the SD slot, although certain (lower) bitrates work better than others. I encoded a movie to 700MB and it played fine. The same movie encoded to 2GB had a slow framerate and a/v sync issues.
