Hi, I'm hoping someone can help as I've followed all the tutorials closely and still cannot get this HDD to work in my AVIC. I'll start at the beginning:

 

-downloaded .tib's from piratebay, seeded to 2.5! (took 2 weeks, no peers!)

-disabled drive security using HDDISABL, checked with ATAPWD

-set drive as PM, rebooted

-confirmed drive was detected in windows

-formatted partitions, restored image with Acronis 11.0 trial

-expanded MSV partition using Paragon Partitioner Pro

-power off, remove drive

-installed in AVIC, get "cannot use HDD" error.

 

Figured it must have been a corrupt restoration, so I formatted drive and tried again. Still won't work. I've read about 100 pages of nonsense issues with PC drive recognition, and the only people having my problem seem to have a corrupt image. Can anyone vouch for the stability of the torrent download? 2 weeks is a long time to re-dl a corrupt file, and I don't want to burden Hyperite's server if there's no problem with the image I have.

 

For the record, the HDD is good, I'm not a n00b though I can be absent-minded, and I really did search the forums. I'm going to try again without re-sizing the partitions and see if that might be the problem.

You do not need to format the partitions. Just select all 5 partitions in acronis (including MBR), and let Acronis create the partitions during the restore. Then test. If it works, then try to expand the music partition. Also, some people have had troubles with using the 80gb drive and expading the music partition to the max size. DO NOT CHANGE THE PARTITION SIZES for the other partitions.

Found out the image I downloaded was corrupt (went to image the drive and 2 files were missing from archive). I'm going to dl from the ftp server and try again.

 

Do you still make drives? If this doesn't work I may just buy one and the resounding opinion is to go to you not ebay. Are you still asking $120 or has the price come down with the technology?
