D3 Upgrade Question

I have a few questions regarding the D3. I really like my D3, but I have a few questions just like everyone else.

1. Can I install a harddrive into the D3?

2. I already know that there is no harddrive, but can I upgrade the flash memory?

The reason for these questions, it because I would like to have the option of not removing the Nav. disk everytime I want to play a CD.

1 - No, unless you buy the USB add-on and used an external usb hard drive. But the interface for that thing is absolutely horrid and pretty much unusable.

2 - No

The best thing to do is to buy an old 5 or 5.5 gen ipod and hook it up to it. Otherwise, there's really no other preferable option. Maybe an add-on DVD changer, but the one or two models that work with it are crazy expensive.

You can also buy one of those "HDD players" that you can put a hard drive in and control on-screen with a remote control. They're fairly inexpensive and might be a viable alternative to an ipod.

You can put the nav disk on the ipod?? Or are you suggesting putting all your cds on the ipod so you don't need the cd player?

No, you can't put the nav disk on the ipod. The only place the unit looks to for nav information is the on-board DVD drive. I'm suggesting putting all your music on the ipod. Or the hard disk player I also suggested... both will also play videos on the D3 if you were wondering about that as well. That way you can leave the nav disk in the unit and not have to worry about it.

If I want to use the HDD method that u suggested, how would I go about installing it to the D3.

1. What wires do u use?

2. How do u power up the unit?

3. Where on the D3 does it connect to?

You would connect it to the D3's rear AV inputs, using RCA cables. I don't know what voltage they run at, though. But you can buy converters to make pretty much anything work off car voltage so it shouldn't be a problem.
