IS it posible to just wipe the music part of the hdd on a stock HD1bt ( z1 i think)

fancy starting again and ripping my music properly

I can't specifically answer your question, but I know it's in the manual on how to wipe it all out. I think it talks about Reset to Factory settings, and there is an option to only do the music libary.

When I received my Z3 upgrade, I got these instructions:

If you want to delete all the music you can do a level 4 reset (press the reset button while off and hold the map button while the system boots up). To delete tracks and albums you have to be in “album†mode.
