GPS Map is not accurate...

Ive had the D3 for about 2 weeks now, the install went nice and easy into my Ranger... I like everything about it except for the GPS...

When im out on the highways around here it always wants to show me about 50-100 meters off to the east of the highway... I have tried to adjust the position though the settings and it will work for a couple miles then just jump me off the road again... It seems to work fine when traveling from East to West...

As soon as i get close to a major city it seems to realign itself and works fine within the city limits... but as i do a bunch of long distance traveling i need it to work on the highways... I actually had to use a map last weeken for directios because as soon as it would jump off the road it wouldnt know where it was, or where i was supposed to turn next... it took one missed turn for me to shut it off and grab the map...

I think i may return it unless someone has some suggestions as to what to do to fix it... if i wanted just a pure entertainment system i could have saved a couple hundred bucks and went with a non gps system...

FYI i have the speed sensor and reverse wires hooked up...

Where is your antenna?

The antenna is sitting on the roof... near the middle front....

Well that's the best place for it.I have mine on the dash,I also have a Ranger. If you're certain all your connections are tight, especially your vss wire then there's not much more you can do.I've heard of other people having this problem from time to time.Sometimes you need to drive the car upto a hundred miles before it becomes accurate,it's call the learning status.Since you do alot of highway miles you probably have done the minimal miles.Double check your vss wire make sure it's the correct one.If it all checks out then by all means take it back.

Im sure the VSS wire is correct... I used a service manual i had for the truck to find it...

I have probably about 800 miles on it so far... after i hooked up the vss that is...

I like it and it works well in the city... but on highways it just doesnt like to stay on the road... My mom had a Tom Tom that did the same thing, so she sold it and bought a magellin with so far no issues...

Maybe its the maps that are off?

Theres not many (if any) other options when it comes to price for a in dash nav system... so i guess im just going to have to weigh out the pros and cons and see if i wanna keep it or not...

I have an Eclipse nav unit. and a Garmin in my other car.I like them, sometimes I question the routes on both of them but they get me there.Sometimes the units will route me thru the city when the highway is closer to me and faster and I have both units set to fastest route. There have been some qestions about the quirks of the nav of the D3 and other people have no issues. So good luck.

Could it be your on a new highway that parallels an old road . If the new highway is not on the map it looks like your driving thru a field . The unit has you in the right place and the road close to you on the map is the old one ?

I had the same issue with mine. When i was driving near Baltimore it jumped me off the highway and showed me driving down the city streets....at 80mph. I missed my exit because of it. My VSS was also hooked up and my 3D calibration was 100% complete. The thing is just a POS. Luckily I just sold my car and included the D3 with it so i don't have to worry about it any more.

jhoglesr- there are no roads parrelling the highway i was traveling on... not within eye sight anyways...

Yettavr6- Im probably going to return mine and just get a cheaper entertainment system, cuz i do like the double din...

What system did you end up going with?

I still have my D2 . Pioneer has some great and reliable units . Only the nav part is a little lacking . Love the in dash unit much better than the portable XM and TomTom I had on my dash before because of the small screens and wires. If I was going to replace my D2 I would look at the Kenwood DNX 8120 because it uses Garmin navigation . Let the radio people do the radio and the nav people do the nav :)
