I'm looking to purchase an AVIC Z1 unit for a much reduced rate than a Z2 or Z3 and then buy a hard disk that has the updated Z3 software on in to install in the Z1 frame? Does anyone know if this can be done? If so, will I essentially end up with the same off the shelf product as a Z3? The reason I'm asking is becuase if I can do it this way I figured I will end up saving over a grand in product cost off the bat. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

You are correct. If you can find a good deal on a Z1 and install a Z3 hard drive, it will be the same as an off the shelf Z3.

I found a website that offers a download to bypass the dvd lockout function on the Z-2 does anyone know if this will work? http://underground-secret.com /page15.html
