I think my shop did it wrong..everything works great (july unit, wires grounded) but then after a while it goes into "parking brake not etc..and wont let me watch dvds or navigate...I have to stop reset the z1 and then its fine untill it decides to do it again. Picked it up today and has done it 3 times already. Any ideas? The sop installer said he gounded the wire as described on here...I bought the bypass relay jus in case but they said they didnt need it.

Its possible that they didn't ground the other wire. For those units, there are 2 wires to ground... the parking brake wire and a new wire you need to add to connector 2.

Scroll down to see the 07/06 bypass.

If you only ground the parking brake, when the car senses movement, it will give you that parking brake warning message. With the other wire grounded it seems to keep the parking brake warning from showing up.

I think others have used this bypass for hours. I think I ran with this for about an hour tops at one time. Are you sure they did both wires?

Or maybe that connection is not reliable or it's intermittent. If that second wire got lose and lost ground, the parking brake warning will come back.

Sorry, it's all I got....

I grounded both the super secret mystery wire and the parking brake wire to the same ground. I have had no problem at all. Maybe your ground is loose.

I would say it's possible the super secret mystery wire ground might have been loose, when that is no longer grounded but the parking brake is grounded, the parking brake message comes up.

Check the connection 2 as well as the wire that is actually connected to ground, that's where I would start.

ahh thats a good point. Since there was not meant to be a wire in there in the first place, when the installer put it in it could be loose or not seated in all the way.

now why couldnt i think of that? lol
