iPod loses memory over a long 4-day weekend

After I fixed my car, I let the truck rest over a 4-day weekend. Ever since I started doing that, my iPod loses its memory over the weekend. It takes awhile before it starts playing, and when it does, it's usually either some random song/album or the first one alphabetically. The Z2 itself seems fine, and everything is fine overnight. Is the iPod battery the most likely explanation? Or can a defect in the CD-IB100 cause this? The iPod does hold a charge normally, although I don't know how long it can play on battery mode since I only remove it from my truck to sync it.

It didn't occur to me to check the iPod battery level before starting the truck this morning so I'll have to wait till next week to see if the reason it resets is due to a completely dead battery or not, but I can't imagine it being anything else.

I had a very similar problem with an old iPod as well. I had access to another newer iPod, and used it, and the problem never came back. If your problem continues and you have access to try another iPod I would try it, but its more then likely your iPod.

Thanks for the tip, IvanRaide. I brought the iPod inside and let it sit unused for 5-days which is slightly longer than my truck sits for over the weekend. When I turned the iPod on, it appeared to do a cold boot (showed the Apple logo). It's definitely not the CD-IB100. The battery was very low, but it booted up fine and had enough charge to function fine, so I don't think it's the battery.

Anyhow, I did some research and found out these older iPods, 3G and 4G, will go into Deep Sleep after 36-hours. Deep Sleep is equivalent to a PC turning completely off. When a button is pressed, the iPod does a cold boot and completely forgets where it was last playing. 5G and newer iPods have a hibernation mode so I think they'll go much longer (indefinitely?) without forgetting where they left off. I did find a program called iPodWizard that can disable Deep Sleep on a 3G or 4G iPod. I've given that a shot and will see how well that works.
