I apologize if this question has already been answered in the past but I've tried searching the forum and was unable to find where to tap the VSS to. I tried going through the website stickied up top but it doesn't have an option for BMW's .

Did you ever find out where the VSS wire was in your vehicle? I also have an M3 and looking to install a GPS as well.

I know this is an old thread but for anyone looking here is what I found out. The VSS on the E46 is located in the splice box just above the fuse panel in the glove compartment. It should be the black/white wire. The reverse wire is located in the same spot but is the blue/yellow one.
