Hello everybody, just joined today. There is a Pioneer Avic D3 on ebay for very cheap, the only problem with it is it will not play CD's or DVD's. I was wondering if anybody has had this problem with this model and how much it cost to repair it. I just want to know if it is worth buying. I have done some minor searching on here for the problem but I don't have time to search the whole forum. So if anyone has had this problem please let me know if it is worth buying this unit. Well if it won't play any disks, the unit is pretty useless. You can't use the nav either if that is the case. If it turns out the drive needs replacement, you will have to send it in to Pioneer and they will charge you at least their $200 out of warranty service/repair charge. However, if you can find another D3 with a working drive for cheap (maybe because of a cracked screen or something) you can swap them out of you have the know-how to do it yourself. But IMO, it's not worth buying.

It's an option but after it's all said and done with the money laid out and the labor, it may just be worth buying the F Series. f700s go for about 600 now, plus you get so many more features.

That is true. The for price of the unit plus amount you would need to spend to fix it (or have it fixed) you could just buy a working D3 or even a new F700. The only drawback is that the 700 doesn't play DVD's, only CD's.

I bought my F700BT from here and had no problems at all.

Of course it doesnt have a warranty but neither does a used d3 with a broken drive. only this works and also has 4v preouts, plus msn direct and many more features. That's my suggestion to you Gman, save up a bit more and get either the 900 or the 90.
