should the map lighting switch from day to night automatically when the lights are switch on? my map stays on the day colors when i turn my headlights on.

yeah, it should change automatically. the orange illumination wire must not be hooked up. get that hooked to a circuit that only has power when your headlights come on.

I hooked my ILL wire to the cluster dimmer switch in my truck. If I have the headlights on during the day in the rain or snow, I can dim the cluster lights and fool the nav to light up like it is daytime out. Call me lazy, but it works perfect!
