I came across a thread the other day, and I'm pretty sure it was the user HiFiSi that had posted a couple of pictures on how to fix problems with engine whining and other noises. The pictures showed someone wrapping the connections of the RCA inputs and grounding them on the AVIC-D3 unit itself, using some sort of washer and a metal pin. They also tied all of the copper wires together to make one single connection to ground.

The only thing I came up with upon searching for it was a link to this:

For the life of me I cannot find this thread after searching high and low. Can anyone direct me to the this thread? Also, my apologies HiFiSi if you weren't the one to post this. For some reason I remember seeing you're username in the the thread.

I can hear a very very light whine if I am parked and have everything in my car off like the AC and the D3. If I am driving it is not noticeable at all. I need to take my radio out and get a better ground and I think that will eliminate the noise all together you. If you are still having problems you should upgrade the "big 3" under the hood.

My friend has also done it the other side of the RCA's by the amps with good results. I believe he has it on both sides of the RCA's and has no whine. If you don't want to rip apart your dash (like me) you could try it on the amp side and see if that helps
