I currently have a 2006 Envoy Denali that I have a D2 installed in. My question is can I simply swap out the D2 for the Z2 or will I need a new harness and all?

The technician that installed my D2 has it connected into the present Bose amp, speakers and steering wheel controls.

I'm considering changing out the unit because my DVD Nav is not reading the map data. If the Z2 is not the unit to get for me can you recommend one that would be easy to swap?

You will need the AVIC Z harnesses, but any adapters that you are using with your D2, will still work.

Thank you for this. I am so tempted to do this myself. Its been a while (5 years) since I did any audio install and never a nav unit. Need to get my confidence up!

I am also tempted and seriously considering the Z2/Z3 drive upgrade option.

Only concern is if the Z series will fit in my dash (need to verify).

But I'm thinking that it should since the D2 fits???

If so I'll start looking for places to buy from.

Thanks again!

If the D series fits, the Z series will fit.

Yes Thank you!!

I've been scouring different forums. And I'm ready to get the Z series. Should I stay away from the refurbs?

Anyone know of good deals on Z2 or Z3 units?

Thanks for all your help!!

I bought my Z2 used on eBay and haven't had a problem with it at all. That's probably the best place to go to get the best price.

When you get your Z, don't toss your broken D2 in the trash like someone else here did. That's very wasteful, you can sell it for good money on eBay or if you don't want to go to the trouble, I'd give you a few bucks for it.

<--- hates waste.

Thanks for the info. I'm watching ebay and am finding lots of refurbs all over the internet.

My challenge now is understanding the wiring differences between the D2 and the Z series. Hopefully not much.

I am sending out the D2 for repair and plan on listing it or passing it on to a family member. But I'll keep you in mind if that changes!!!

Thanks again

The connectors are completely different, but the number of wires and wire colors are similar. If you have a harness adapter, you'd just cut the wiring and splice the harness adapter onto the Z3's harness.

OK thats reassuring. And it seems not overly complicated. Appreciate the info here.

I think once I have it in front of me or view some pics it will be perfectly clear.

But this really helps!!

THANKS EVERYONE

All installed and running fine!
