I'm stalling my avic-d2 and I grounded the parking brake and also grounded the open pin of the harness. But when I insert the disk, it comes up saying "please insert appropiate disk'". The disks are version 1.0. I also tried both disks and nothing. Also I would appreciate some info on Accord 04 vss location and installation. Please help!!!

thanks.

Are you putting the discs in the lower dvd slot? IF not, push and hold the open button for a second. The face will drop completely flat. As for the vss and reverse, here ya go.

Speed Sense blue/white ECM/PCM
Notes: The ECM/PCM is on the front of the transmission tunnel. The connectors are on the passenger side. On the 4 cylinder models the VSS wire is in the white 31 pin connector E, pin 26. On the 6 cylinder models it is in the gray connector A, pin 11.

Reverse Light green + driver kick, harness to rear

I've seen that info but...Do I slash the blue/white wire and add the vss wire? Also how do I know for sure the pin number. And yes, I am putting the disk in the second slot.

I don't get the green + driver kick, harness to rear.

Thank you.

Ok not sure why you're d2 is doing that, you could try resetting the unit or leaving it powered down for a day. As for the pin number, if you look at the harness you'll see small numbers on the harness, you just have to count over and make sure the wire color is correct. Yes you splice the vss from the d2 into the blue/white of the car. BAsically what I said about the reverse wire means, it's a green wire positive polarity. It's located in that bundle of wires under the carpet on the drivers side that goes to the back of the car.

Thanks for your help. I will keep working on it tomorrow and post the progress. Thanks again.

Make sure your disc isn't scratched or covered with boogers.

Well, after I installed everything I still get the" please insert the appropiate disk". I called pioneer and they told me that the only explanation is the disk or the unit is defected. The disk is brand new just out of the case in perfect conditions, so is the unit?????. I bought the unit from ebay from one of this power sellers. I sent him an e-mail already. Do you guys think is the unit??? Also the cd player works fine, it just won't read navi disk.

thanks.

Exact same thing happened to me. I bought from a power seller too(hifiaudioonline). I just sent the unit back to them for an exchange. It was a refurbished unit. Might be something to look out for.

Well, I got another unit and went ahead and tried it right away to see if everthing is hooked up right. When I hit the vehicles info, it only shows the clock and it says the other two to the right are unavailable. Does that mean that my vss cable is not hooked up right? I used the connector that comes with the unit that clips on both wires.

No, it usually takes a couple hours to come on line because the gyro is still initializing.
Posted Sep 26, 2006 · 21:30 UTC#11
Oh I see. Now will it affect a lot if I don't connect the reverse wire. I've tried looking for it with no success.

Another question. How can I know for sure or test that the vss is connected before I put everything back together?
Posted Sep 27, 2006 · 01:21 UTC#13
Grab a multi meter set it to ac voltage. Put the positve probe on the wire you think is vss. Put the negative probe to ground start the car and slowly start driving the reading should fluctuate as your spead increases and decreases.

As far as the reverse wire, unless you have a back-up camera, it isn't essential. Although, if you drive in reverse for an extended distance, (ala Ferris Bueller), you may end up with an incorrect position and direction, but, since this is a learning system, it will correct itself eventually.

Not bad? Just out of curiousity you wouldn't happen to have the factory 6disc changer up there would you? if you do, I can help you make that work too.

No I don't. But I would really want to have the radio buttons and a/c controls to light up at night. Since Honda has both in one. I bought a factory harness and tried to feed power to the unit but it wasn't working, so finally I connected red with red and yellow with yellow and smoke came out and that was the end of my experiment. But if you know how I can make that to work, I can get another factory radio off ebay or something. thanks.

Do you mean the changer in the console?
Posted Sep 30, 2006 · 15:24 UTC#19
I mean the indash changer of the 03-up accords. Not a hard thing to do. Need a 70-1721, a 71-1721, a line out converter, a short rca jumper, and a radio with a rear aux input.

Now that you've got that, splice the lineout converter to the front speaker wires of the 70-1721. Cap off the rear speaker wires of that harness you won't need them. Tie in the yellow, black, red, and orange wires to the 70-1721. Now wire up your new radio to that same 70-1721 harness. You'll more than likely have to turn the gains on the lineout converter down, but all you gotta do now is run the rca from the lineout converter to the aux input of the new radio.

One of these days, I'll take a picture of the harness next time I do this.

No changer, but the cd/radio/a.c unit wich is all in one. I want it to work but it wont have the speakers or radio antena hooked up. I just want it to light up at night so I dont have a black space in my dash. But I don't know if its possible though.

It should light up. What harness did you use to install that thing? Did it have another end on it to plug back into the stock radio?
Posted Sep 30, 2006 · 15:54 UTC#22
I used the stock radio harness from honda, which has the connector to plug it in the radio and lose ends on the other side. So the one that is in the car I hooked it up to the aftermarket harness that you hook up to the avic's harness. Now the one I bought from honda I hook it up to the stock radio unit with the correct combination of wires (this part I messed up because the unit started smoking) which I would get from avic harness or aftermarket harness. I don't know if I explained it right but you get the idea.

Pretty tricky........

Oh, and I got mixed up with an Expedition thread I was on. Duh, no console changer.
