I read the manual and it lists dvd-r dl (dual layer). I went to 3 stores today and they only have dvd+r dl. Anyone with a f series use the +r dl and do they work? for mp3 or dvd

Yup - I use +r dl and it works fine.

I think the only reason the manual only mentions -R is because Pioneer invented the format (in competition with +R), so refuse to acknowledge the existence of anything else!
