Dimmer screen goes on HIGH with high beams

I searched, and couldn't find my problem here, so maybe it's unique?

Z3 installed new by professionals in July in 2008 Pontiac Solstice. Everything works great, including adequate volume level for BT phone connection.

For the first time since installed, I did some night driving over the weekend. Turning headlights on (AVIC in "Day" mode) and the screen performs the expected dimming to accommodate the darken cabin. However, come to a dark place on the road and turn on the headlight high beams, the AVIC screen returns to full daytime brightness. Acts just as if I turned 'off' the headlights.

Not very desirable when you need more iris and not less to see the road.

The immediate cure was to change the AVIC to "automatic" but I never could get used to the inverted colors of the night vision map. Would prefer to have the dimmed regular map just like the N3 in my Jeep.

Is this a wireing issue, or firmware foulup?

Thanks

Wiring issue. The illumination wire is tied into your low beam headlights instead of the parking lights.

Makes sense to me. Thank you very much

Right on. In case anyone else has this issue, or is installing in a GM vehicle, this the color code direct from the professional manual:

Pin 5 0.35 BN/WH Park Lamp Switch ON signal

Pin 15 0.35 WH Headlamp Switch Headlamps ON signal

I'm going to share this info with my installer and he said he will fix at no charge.

Thanks garrettoomey, appreciate the excellent advice.
