Cockpit View

Is anyone able to get Full Screen Cockpit to work? The setting is at the botttom of the Map Settings screen.

When I select ON, it appears to work, but when I come back to the setting, it's always changed back to it's OFF position.

I looked in the data.zip file, there are at least 3 files related to Full Screen Cockpit in the 'data/ui_pioneer/common' directory.

The files are:

cockpit_infobg.bmp

cockpit_infobg_big.bmp

cockpit_infobg_i.bmp

None of the files are viewable in Fireworks, Paint or the windows preview function. The error messages say not a valid bitmap file, or file is damaged or corrupted.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Does anyone have working files that can be posted to replace corrupted files?

And, does anyone know what cockpit mode does? The manual says it "Shows/Hides the Multi-Info window and Second manoeuvre arrow" (manoeuvre is the actual spelling in the manual) :) But I'm still not sure exactly what it can do.

thanx!

ps - i just noticed a lot of the .bmp files in the 'data/ui_pioneer/common' directory are showing as damaged or corrupt. is it just me or does everyone have this problem?

(Almost) all iGO bitmaps are compressed with a proprietary algorythm, and need to be uncompressed with something like MioMap BMP Tol.

Of course bitmaps themselves have nothing to do with full-screen cockpit settings...

Thanks for the info about the Miomap bmp tool.

Does your Full Screen Cockpit setting work?

Do you know what it does (in more detail than user manual?)

Does selecting ON change back to OFF when you go to another screen?

When I said the .bmp files were related to the Full Screen Cockpit setting, what I mean was when the setting was turned on, one or more of the bmp files ( cockpit_infobg.bmp, cockpit_infobg_big.bmp & cockpit_infobg_i.bmp ) would be shown. Are you saying this is not true? To clarify, are you saying that the 3 files above are not in anyway part of the Full Screen Cockpit display? Reason I ask is: I thought that since the 3 files were corrupt, that was why my Full Screen Cockpit setting did not stay in the ON position.

One last question, (last one, i promise!) - I AM able to open most of the bmp files in the same directory as the Full Screen Cockpit bmps using Fireworks, Paint and windows preview. Why am I able to open most of the files, but not the ones that have Full Screen Cockpit in their name? They're all bmp files.... And if they are not related to the Full Screen Cockpit setting, how do you find out which image files ARE related? (that was 2 questions, sorry!)

I am totally confused.

Hey, but at least I read the manual & checked the forums before posting, right? :)

thanx in advance,

You're welcome.

I don't think I have ever tried the full cockpit view. I like my information on screen, and if I want to chnage it I just hack the skin.

Which files do or do not open depends, probably, on whether they are original NavNGo files (most likely compressed) or ones Pioneer did.

If iGO weren't able to open a file it needs it would throw a nasty error message and quit, so you'd notice :)

If you want to really see what image is used where (and how iGO lays out information) you need to look at .UI files. Quick check, BTW, shows that the files you mentioned are not used at all...

I love this forum! Thank you so much Boris for showing me the way! :)

I'm going to check out some ui files......

thank you

You're welcome. You also really want to check the Hacks forum since this is where all the modding activity occurs...

The full screen cockpit setting is reset to default every time the thing restarts. Just add it to the list of annoying bugs.

It shouldn't be too much trouble to register that variable as permanent to keep it showing after a power cycle.

The images you're trying to open are left over fragments from the default NavNGo skin, and are not used in the Pioneer interface.

this is a setting in the variable_def.ui file

0= off

1=on

this is a setting in the variable_def.ui file

0= off

1=on

This explains it. Since they did not mark it as permanent, the setting is never saved.
