XM and IPOD Connection Problems...blow fuse on yellow wire?

Hey Guys,

So while sorting out my OEM sub to Z1 problem for the thousandth time (which I think it ended up being a bad metra harness, we'll see if this fixes it), I decided to slowly take apart and check all my connections on the Z1 harness itself.

Well after putting it all back together I discovered my XM radio, XM navtraffic and IPod stuff doesn't work!

Then I saw that I forgot to ground the wire for those two items.

So I grounded the wire and it still won't work! I have both of them running their yellow battery wires to the yellow batter wire on my metra harness that plugs from the z1 to the OEM harness.

So my question is, could I have blown the fuse for the Ipod controls and the xm when I had the yellow wire attached, but not the ground wire? I'm talking about the fuses that run inline on the yellow wires.

I'm trying to figure this one out and am getting really tired of having to do break fix stuff on this project. I should have just left well enough alone.

No. You couldn't have blown a fuse by connecting it to power but not ground. Without the ground, there is not a complete circuit, and the electricity would not flow.

However, you may still have blown a fuse doing something else, so pull the fuses out of their holders and check if they are intact.

You may also have to reset the xm tuner. But then again I'm guessing you've probably already tried that.

Well I had a feeling it'd be something REALLY stupid that was causing it not to work so I sat and stared at the wiring for awhile. Then I reached to the very bottom of the opening in the dash (05 F150 so there is lots of room to lose things) and pulled on a few wires till one came right up in my hand....not connected AND it was marked as one of my ground wires.

I ground that wire and bam the XM radio and Ipod started working. I thought I had already ground the wire for them, but apparently that was the ground wire for the steering wheel controls and I forgot about them having a ground so I thought the number of ground wires I had was the right amount.

Now lets see if this sub keeps working without a static inteference over it. Hopefully I was right and it was just a bad metra harness causing the problem.

Should I only connect one of the RCAs since only one of them goes to something in the stock harness? Or is it not hurting anything by connecting them both?
