Dimmer wire

I have a dimmer wire on my vehicle adapter, does the pioneer support dimmer feature ? I cannot seem to find one on the pioneer adapter. The Orange\white which says "ILL" connects to the Illumination. No problems there.

Anyone here know which wire on the pioneer is the dimmer cable ?

Maybe this question has been answered before.Sorry i have to ask ..

Thanks for your Help.

ILL is the illumination wire, its looking for +12v. You can't use a dimming illumination wire, so get your voltmeter and find the wire for your vehicle that ends +12vDC when your night lights are on.

Standard aftermarket color designation is:

Orange/White is the Dimmer circuit.

Orange is the Illumination circuit.

Use the orange/white in the Pioneer harness to the dimmer lead in your factory harness. I know Pioneer refers to it as "Illumination" in the references, but it functions properly when treated as dimmer in connecting to the OEM harnesses.

Diane,

So i do not use the one labeled "ILL" on the pioneer and connect it to the dimmer cable instead ?

I will try that and let you know.

Thanks,

SK

SK,

Not sure where you're going with that, I said "use the orange/white from the pioneer to connect to your OEM dimmer circuit"

get your voltmeter out; the wire that supplies 12 volts when your lights come on is the wire you tie to ILL

terron and diane.

Thanks for your help. I fixed the dimmer issue. Not exactly as expected but i got it to a point where it works. The "ILL" wire had ~12V constant. The "Dimmer" wire had 12V constant when the dimmer level was set to LOW and around 0-1V when the dimmer level was set to HIGH. Yes its just the opposite to what it was supposed to achieve. I connected the dimmer wire to the Pioneer illumination wire.

Now when i set the illumination level to 50% and with the head lights on, the brightness level goes down to 2 from a 4. So it at least responds to changes.

Either the dimmer in my vehicle is screwed up or the logic in the pioneer is wrong.

Thanks,

you can adjust the brightness with the headlights on and off to seperate levels

Your dimmer is not screwed up. Most cars use a positive feed dimmer system where the positive supply to the dash lights is varied or modulated. Yours is one of the cars that uses a negative feed system. The dash bulbs have one side connected to a constant +12V feed and the other to the dimmer wire. The lower the voltage on the dimmer wire, the brighter the lights on the dash.
