I have a bunch of music Apple Lossless encoded that is either 24bit 48kHz or 24bit 96kHz. Has anyone tried playing these from an iPod connected to the F-series (preferably the f90bt)? Was it a complete success or an utter failure? Were there any problems with the unit lagging playing high res audio?

I can provide some samples if someone's willing to test it out ;)

I'm pretty sure that the iPod itself is doing the decoding for all the songs on it. The unit itself is just transmitting the signals coming from the iPod to the speakers, so there shouldn't be any degradation in sounds.

yeah that pretty much sums it up

correct.

the USB connection is only to control the iPod from the deck. the audio is feeding to the deck by analogue audio cables (RCA connectors).

And the ipod converts down all audio to 16 bit 44.1 khz audio through the dock connector anyway.

Regarding that last statement, do you mean that we still get 24bit audio because the sound is transmitted through the RCA connection?

If so, good. If not, it basically means there is no way to get true lossless 24bit audio from the iPod to the headunit...

By the time it leaves the ipod it has went through the analog to digital converters which converts it to 16 bit.

That's too bad.

Well, looks like I'll have to wait for the new AVIC's or the new Kenwoods which will hopefully support Lossless AAC or FLAC.

Ummm, since it leaves iPod over analog RCA connectors, it would have went through Digital-to-Analog converters, and about the only worthwhile thing about iPods is that they use semi-decent DACs.
