After having problems with my second Kenwood DNX-7320 headunit my local supplier was kind enough to swap it out for the F900BT which came with V2.0 firmware. What a difference!! For anyone looking at the Kenwood's consider what I found from my personal experience. I am in Australia, so there may be small model differences.

* Sound quality is soooooo much better on the F900BT. Not even in the same league. It was what I noticed on the first drive how much better my usual favourite songs sounded. HUGE difference!

* Bluetooth that actually works. I have a basic Sony T650i and although listed as fully supported by Kenwood (I used a KCA-BT200), it would rarely connect and if it did would randomly drop out. The F900BT has worked flawlessly, connecting without issue and all calls so far have been clear at both ends.

* F900BT has a much cleaner interface. The touchscreen is not as sharp to use but its not bad either. Overall the F900BT feels much higher in quality. Generally the F900BT interface is much more mature and doesnt feel like a teenager designed it.

* Kenwood has better ipod control, although it would crash the HU and he ipod often. Why Pioneer wont let you use the scroll bar to jump through a playlist is lunacy! When you have over 100 playlists it means taking eyes off the road for a long time to find your songs. Outside the US the F900BT does not have Voice Recognition for whatever reason. You also cant jump back to your current playlist to choose another song. Pioneer's video ipod control is better though. Pioneer has not crashed my 80gb ipod even once yet.

* Still getting used to the Pioneer Nav interface. Its not as intuitive as the Garmin/Kenwood but functions well. Why you cant just tap the screen to get options like cancelling a route is a stupid omission though.

Overall I am very happy with the swap and would never go back to Kenwood.

That's neat, glad you like it. Quite a far cry from the typical this unit is a pos! This sort of confirms what we all had been saying, 2.0 is where this unit should of been at release.

Let's just hope for a few more updates to fine tune everything. Still a few more minor bugs to squash.

I'm glad to hear somebody enjoys the unit.

I think anyone who is complaining about the F900BT should really go out and try to use some of the competition. The Kenwood did nothing but annoy the hell out of me since the day I had it fitted. Every 20mins or so the ipod would crash requiring a reboot, and the headunit would not recognise the ipod again unless it too was power-cycled. The sound quality was the real killer, I just never knew what I was missing until the Pioneer went in. Not to mention a confusingly labelled interface that required reading the crap manual fifty times to figure out simple functions. I have been an engine management programmer for 20 years so I am no tech-novice.

Previous to the Kenwood my last car had a Clarion MAX667, so I have had my fair share of 2-DINs. What I don't understand is that they have a large screen, yet alot of the selection buttons are so small! So too the information sections. eg. when in Ipod mode, why is the text so small on all of the headunits. The point of a large screen is to easily show you info while on the move, and make it easy to select other functions without fussing around... yet almost all of the headunits on the market dont make proper use. Personal preference I guess.

The Pioneer joystick/button thingy is not the best design. Try pressing it in on a road that is not billiard table smooth without selecting some other function instead. I am also going to put a black sticker over the alloy. The bright alloy look just screams out "steal me!" in a carpark.

The aussie model has a few differences too. My GPS section looks a little different to the screenshots I see from the US version. Apparently ours is an EU model, but is definitely listed as v2.000. But so far so good, I am happy with the Pioneer and is the best of the 2-DIN units I have had, even though the screen is the smallest.

If you want to see how far we all are behind the Japanese. The car I have now is a JDM import, and came with an 2-DIN Eclipse AVN8802D satnav. This headunit was released in 2002 and believe it or not came with google earth style satellite view mapping, and 3D polygons of all builings. Not only that, but a full car maintainence function that monitored mileage and when due for servicing would warn you which items were due and advice you of the nearest service centre that handles your car. If you searched, for example, for a restaurant it didn't just find the address, but alot had photos of the place inside and out, full menus and even food prices. Not bad for over 5 years old.... when we were still amazed at ipods and colour screen mobile phones :-) Just no aussie maps available so it had to go.

Is the 7320 the same as the US 7120?

Yeah I thought my F90BT had much better sound quality than the DNX5120 it replaced

I went from my stock Nissan Versa stereo unit to the Avic-f90bt. BAM! What as sound difference. Don't even need new speakers.
