I just ordered my f90bt online and the retailer tried to have me buy 2008 maps for $200. I said no and he said ill be shipped a unit with 2005 maps. IS this true? if so how do i update my maps and do i have to pay to do this every time?

what retailer did you go though?

From the little ive read around here i think theres going to be an update before mid 09 i think, But if your getting an old unit I would think twice before buying from who ever you did....you also want to make sure you got the 2.0 firmware update too.

From what I understand....I could be wrong...but these just came out, so im assuming there hasnt been an update for them yet, thus all the 1st gen ones are the same

lolololololololololol

you ordered from one of those fly-by-night retailers in New York; its a scam, they have no maps to sell you and will just tell you that they reflashed the unit before mailing it out. you did the right thing by not buying them or falling for that pitiful ploy

i bought it from prestige camera. i figured it was a scam but am i getting 05 maps or the same everyone else has. and idc if 2.0 isnt installed on it thats a two minute process

You'll get the same maps as everyone else. With any luck, it will also show up with all the accessories its supposed to

well theyre supposed to be boxed together. so if i dont get everything ill rip them a new one

You will be lucky if you dont get a disaster. And there is probably not much you can do about it as they most likely will not allow you to return it. Never buy from one of those camera shops in NY. Go to BBB.com and you will see why. I would expect a problem when it arrives if I were you. That way, at least you are mentally prepared.

He means the stuff that is suppose to come in the box with the unit. Like the GPS antenna or the wiring harnesses. They often make you purchase things separately that are provided in the box from the manufacturer.

map updates are released once a year.maybe mid next year we can expect a update for maps.

chenzi,

I hope all goes well with your purchase, but if not, and you have the desire to bash this unit in the future on this site - do us a favor and put the specifics of your purchase in your signature.

I wouldn't want other folks that purchased their units to give credence to what will most likely be problems that wouldn't ordinarily happen to one that had come from normal retailers.

Cheers,

Kev

Guys, you can't be cheap to the point of buying from shady companies. Buy from newegg or amazon.com stop this crazyness where you see a crazy low price. it's too good to be true.

Selling you on 200 dollar map updates, man I wonder how many people fall for that.

If your going to be dropping hundreds of dollars on a stereo, do at least a little research. Besides the map updates, when available will be 120, current maps i guess are 2008, early.

thank you for the answers. i actually have bought items from this company and have never had a problem before. I figured it was a scam im just new to the navi market and was worried about what maps i was getting. however, i did get a phone call today saying my order is on backorder for 2-3 weeks. this is a problem because i have a nasty case of the "gotta have it." Any ideas on where to buy from now?

This is part of the scam. It will stay on back order until you give them more money so that they wouldn't be selling at a loss. Cancel your order and get one somewhere else. (Check on the internet, this is a common tactic.)

Cancel your order now. Never buy from one of the places again.

Just wanted to let you guys know that hifiaudio, the link referenced, is actually a decent company. I have ordered numerous things from them. Most recently a Avic-F500BT. It can in 2 days via UPS ground. It was nicely boxed in a Pioneer box with all the parts and very clean.

I am not a troll for them, but a normal guys who comes here for info. Some of the crap from NY is bad, but I can personally attest to these guys.

cancel your order right away!!! those places opperate like this; they get your order, they call you and try to sell you the included items with the product seperatly, they also sell total b.s. like your "nav update", and when you dont agree to buy back the included pieces or the "scam item" they tell you that your order has all the sudden magically been back-ordered.

they try to keep your money for as long as possible (i bet your credit card was charged the same day) or until you cancel the order, and use YOUR MONEY to invest in high risk stocks!! you will never get the item you paid for! and if you get luck and get it, it wont have anything but the head unit in the box. they WILL remove everything like the plug harnesses, antennas, and everything and try to sell it back to you.

just do a google search on the seller if you dont believe me. several people have made the mistake of buying from these places. typically, one store front will opperate several on-line stores, and the scarry thing is, some of them made it onto amazon's prefered sellers list!
