I decided to buy an new IPod Nano simply for the lager capacity. Previously I was using a 4 GB 2nd Gen Nano which worked great. This time I ended up buying a 4th Gen 16 GB Nano and I noticed that it doesn't charge in the D3 like the 2 generation one did. This is kind of a drawback because now I have to take it out and charge it where as before I would always leave the IPod in the car and it was always charged.

Anyone know if there is a way to charge it with the D3?

Nope

so in a sense, the 2nd generation IPod was better.

My god I think you've got it! I am going to look into this and report back if it really works. And to think I was thinking about ditching my 4th gen nano for a 2nd gen.

You my friend, are a true Super Hero! Many Thanks! :D

People in the other thread said that this adapter does not work with the D3.

How come you wouldn't recommend it? If it works, it save you the hassle of having to charge it all the time.

Here is a users quote from the Apple Store:

This adapter does NOT work with the Pioneer AVIC-D3 and the iPhone 3g. Music still plays, but it will not charge. (By the way, music still plays without the adapter.)

"Kensington 4-in-1 Car Charger for iPod USB cable with car charge adapter" works with the pioneer units. I have one with my 4th gen and it fixed the problem.

I ordered one of those at 730am this morning. Found it for 19 shipped.

CONFIRMED, the Kensington 4 in 1 charger works. :D

So you still have to plug this into the cigarette lighter to get it to charge? Or does it convert the voltage from the head unit to charge it?

plugs into cigarette lighter.
