Hi Guys, Im new here

Im in the UK and picked up my F900BT today. Looks like a great unit.

Ive done most of the wiring but got stuck. Im installing it in my 2008 VW Polo.

So far ive moved and grounded the mute from the white plug and also grounded the handbrake. I dont fancy taking my brand new car apart to tap into the switch!

But ive run into a few probs. One being the aerial. I need to use a booster with mine as the VW unit has it built in. Here is a pic of it

The silver and blue plugs are obvious but im stuck on the blue wire. I think its power but im not sure. The radio seems to have reception without it connected to anything but i remember when i installed an X1 on my dads van we had to do somthing with it. But i cant remember what?

The aerial is on the roof so its not motorised or anything. Do i connect this wire to anything?

The 2nd problem is power! I plugged the unit in and it came straight on. The keys were in my pocket so i guess its getting power all the time and needs to be switching on the ACC..How do i wire this?

Many thanks for any help.

Anyone?

Ive found a switched live on the VW plug and routed the ACC to that but when i take the key out it turns off. Not like power down but more like switching a PC off at the mains. Im sure thats not right!

There's not *one* power lead coming out of the unit, there are *two*

The Yellow wire that gets connected to an always live 12v source

The Red wire that gets connected to a switched 12v source

Check both with a meter to be sure that you have it connected correctly.

When you turn the car off, yes, the unit shuts down, did you expect different behavior? or does it do something suggesting to you that it has no memory power? (the yellow one)

Hi Mat

First the blue wire is to power the amp, but the pioneer does not require the antenna to be amplified so take the compleate device out of circuit.

And to your second question, there is two wires to be connected to the radio (well for power) one need to be a perminant live, and (as you have said) the ign switch live.

What you might have to do is swap the yellow and the red over(check out the Instalation Manual

The radio does compleatly shut down hence the slow boot up

Pioneer may not require the antenna be amplified, but most of the "stubby antennas" like I've seen on a Golf, or that I've had on a Vibe or Matrix do indeed require a turn on lead, some tie it in with the amp turn-on in the car harness, others need you to use the harness, which is why they Pioneer units have both an amp turn on, and an antenna turn on lead.

Hi Diane

Yes you are correct but from the OP's picture its not that type of Amplified Antenna.

The problem with a lot of VW radio's is they need some form of amplification, so you need fit the amplifiers (as shown) but not for likes of the Pioneer !

Hi all

Thanks for your help.

I need the aerial booster like that as its a conversion from the VW plug to the standard pioneer one. Ive connected the blue cable to "Antenna control" and it works fine, I get good reception on Am and FM.

For the moment i have found a switched live in the VW harness that i have put the red wire (Acc) to. The yellow is still perm live.

This does work with the ignition etc but when i take the key out the unit shuts off quickly. Is that the same for everyone else or is it meant to do a power down sequance?

What i really need is a can-bus but shops are shut today so going to look for one tomorrow. I have found one on ebay thats plug and play and it will give me speed signal, Illumation, Reverse and swithed live. Sounds like just what i need!

Hi Again Mat

Ok on using the Anntea control, but becarefull as you can only draw 300mA and if your amplifier draws more, then it might do damage to the set.

If you have found a perminant live, then connect the yellow, and if the other connection turns off with the key, use that for the Red and all will be fine, it will shut off fairly quickly (mine does)

And if all ok then you will not need the can-bus adaptor.

Ps just a quick point on the connection for the amp, if your acc is now ok, use this, so when the key is out, the amp is off

Hello,

I have been through the whole post and can not seem to figure it out (maybe because english is not my mother tongue).

Anyway, I have a Polo 9N3 and i'm trying to install a F900BT in it but i also notice that it is always on no matter if the cables are red-red / yellow-yellow or red-yellow / yellow-red

Which cable should i put together?

I'm just looking toward a basic installation without any subwoofer or anyting.

Thank you very much for your help !!
