I have a 03 VW Passat.

And I just bought this f700bt, and a c2r-vw harness, connected all the wires from the headunit harness to the c2r-vw, plugged everything in, but the thing won't power up, don't know where went wrong.

Is it more likely for the headunit itself, or the c2r-vw harness to be defective?

Without sounding like a prick, I would have to say that its more likely neither of the items were defective and something was connected incorrectly. The problem is, depending on what was connected incorrectly, damage could have been done.

With all electronics... check the fuses, check the ground, check the fuses again, check the ground again and when your done with this... do it again.

If none of the fuses are bad, and the grounds are good and solid, make sure that your vehicle specific harness was connected properly.

If none of this illuminates the issue, then its more serious than can be troubleshooted via a forum.

The biggest problem ive ever had dealing with installs is as simple as the damn remote wire.

You do have this connected right? When installing this unit it was the first time ive turned the key and all worked great the first go around.

So its prety easy to do....on my last install i kept blowing my Audio fuse for my truck itself from trying the bypass, after i got that all figured out i still dont have a whiper fluid fuse  impossible to find the right size fuse i need, its annoying (smaller than a mini)......anyway, its comes down to a blown fuse.

SO yea, fuses, grounds, and remote wire is what i can suggest.
