Can This Be Done?

I have a question that I haven't found to be asked on here (at least in the F-series board). Is there anyway to add a keypad on initial start-up of the unit? If so can the remote-turn on output be controlled through software within the unit? Is there any of you Guru's could add a primary menu layer/setting to disable/enable the remote turn on lead to act as a ignition lock?

I would love to be able to turn the key to on, have the unit start with a number pad on the screen, enter the 4-digit number and then be able to start my vehicle with the key. Is this in anyway possible on my F700BT?

Thanks guys, just day-dreaming at work again.

I never thought of it like that, but yes. Any idea if that could be done? Although unlikely, it would be a great anti-theft feature.

I can't see it being done through the avic but I'm sure there's some password piece you can hook up to a relay tied into the starter wire. The avic is in no way tied to your ignition harness, and the only way I can see it ever happening is if someone designs the password interface so when the correct sequence is entered it gives power to a wire not being used by the owner, IE reverse wire or speed sense, etc, which would trigger a relay that allows your starter wire to complete the circuit...but good look with that.

....I want that though lol

These are available online... But it would not have anything to do with your Avic.

I had a push button start installed in my Porsche because I thought it would be cool... It actually was a PITA. A good old metal key in a lock will almost never fail you... But the first time you are sitting in a parking lot with a hot chica by your side and you enter your 4 secret digits and the car wont start, your gonna wish you still used a key!

PS: I just checked and I cant find it any longer... ABout 6 months ago, I did a google search and found a link from a BMW website. Now all I can find are the fingerprint readers.

That's why you put an emergency hot chick switch hidden to bypass the password lock when activated lol

I think you misunderstood, I know the radio wiring is not connected to the ignition-to-starter wiring, only the ignition switch relay, this isn't what I was intending. I meant use a power out already on the unit, like the remote turn on lead, controlling it using software (whatever the keypad would use) to turn that lead on/off. This lead would now trigger the starter relay, just like the "crank" position of a regular ignition/push button start. I think it would be kind of cool, but the flaws would be major hassle without some sort of hidden manual bypass trigger.

I remember that "button sequence ignition lock" thread on Bimmerforums somewhere, I'll take a look for it for fun (I'm an avid member).

I think this clarifies what I meant, but like said, if it is possible, it has potential to be a major disadvantage.
