In the Phone mode on the Z1 can you go to settings>audio>SPL and adjust the volume output on it. I don't have Z1 but the D1 and was going thru mine and noticed on certain areas I can adjust the SPL IE, sirius/CD.

This might be the cause of your echo problems. My wife has the Motorolla HF1000 in her volvo and does not have a problem with echo or anything. I fooled around with it a got her output sound to be heard alot clearer on the other end.

Mike positioning is a plus also. Should not be a speaker because that can cause echo probs also. When I get mine I'll be putting it right in front ome behind the steering column.
