will this piece work with the avic z1? basically will the IP bus connect and read on the head unit?

is this worth it?

i hope it works with mp3 cd's too.

I'm not sure if that model is compatible with the Z1. It looks like there is an external remote to control the changer. I bet the IP bus will connect to the Z1 the only thing is you probably cannot control the changer with the Z1. You may want to investigate this unit.

It will work. You will need an AV bus cable as well though. You may need the remote to get the movie to actually start playing on certain movies. It does not play mp3 cds

i thought it did play mp3 cd's?!?!?!

well i like this unit cause i can just keep a few dvd and mp3's in there and not need to take it out. also since its an older model its cheaper now then when it was first introduced.

I don't believe that it has the AV Bus though just IP Bus I'll take a look at mine I do agree its a VERY nice unit, I use mine standalone.

don't forget the rather simple option of an iPod with Video - there are some fairly simple tools for Macs and PCs to rip DVD's into an iPod format, and away you go...

I have this unit and it works with my Z1. Couple notes thou. I can only view the dvds on my Z1, not my other screens. I did not install it myself so maybe it can be wired different. Yes, you have to use a remote to control it, the Z1 won't, but it comes with a remote I belive. I had the old stand alone navi, maybe the remote came with that. Anyhow, it does not play MP3 cds, just get an ipod instead.
